My ervaring as ‘Mind Moves Development & Learning Specialist’ strek van einde 2017 af. Ek het die opleiding ondergaan omdat ek wou uitvind hoekom sommige kinders so sukkel om te leer. Ek het die antwoord gekry in die neurowetenskap van leer en ontwikkeling. Dit is eenvoudig: ons begin by die heel begin van fisiese ontwikkeling en die bedrading van die senuweestelsel. Maar dis ook kompleks want elke kind met ‘n vaardigheidsprobleem is soos ‘n unieke legkaart wat aanmekaar gesit moet word totdat sukses ervaar word. As ‘Mind Moves Development & Learning Specialist’ is dít waar die beloning lê!

As a Mind Moves Learning & Development Specialist, I feel privileged to be a part of a child`s journey where challenges can transform into curiosity and wonderful possibilities.

Children with learning difficulties are often misunderstood as misbehaving. I am thankful to have the opportunity to work with them, understand their behaviour and pave the way for easier learning and success. I love this role.

Being a Mind Moves Development & Learning Specialist is an absolute honour. Having been a Primary School teacher by profession, I have stood in front of classes feeling hopeless and overwhelmed, not knowing where to start helping a struggling child. But with our knowledge of development, I now know where to start… “At the very beginning… it’s a very good place to start…” as Melodie always sings.

The most rewarding part for me is the improvements parents and children experience within their first Reflex follow up session – besides working towards the goal, their experiences usually involve unexpected improvements like better self-confidence and concentration. Seeing the faces of children as they improve in their Pre-and Post sessions after doing Mind Moves, is also rewarding.

With the Mind Crafters and Study Fitness the most rewarding part is teaching them a study method or technique and seeing their faces lit up as they get it right, which leads them to start believing in themselves and enjoying the learning process. Seeing how they slowly build their self-confidence and how they realise the potential that is inside of them. All the while having fun with purpose! Who doesn’t like to play while working?

Bringing hope to those who struggle and helping families understand and support each other better, is the greatest reward.

Mind Moves is werklik nie ‘n vinnige herstelprogram nie, wel ‘n seker herstelprogram. Ek as Mind Moves ontwikkelings en leer spesialis kan beslis nie meer my lewe indink as individu, mamma, ouma, onderwyseres, lektor en nou as spesialis sonder Mind Moves nie. Wetenskaplik maak dit vir my sin en met jare van toepas, weet ek dit werk. Dit is absoluut daardie goue behoudende draad en werking wat alles net tot volkleur laat kom in elke een wat my pad kruis.

Die lekkerste is om kinders te bemagtig en ons kan die vordering sien en meet. Daardie klein oorwinnings maak alles die moeite werd. Die glimlag van ‘n kind met ‘n ‘whauw’ ek het dit, daardie ahha-oomblik van ek kan nou my twee wiel fiets na Mind Moves sonder veiligheidswiele ry, kan goud nie koop nie. Die heerlike om dit wat geliasseer is in die brein weer uit te kan haal in ‘n toets of eksamen en dit korrek te kan neerpen, laat kinders jubel en spring!

Dit is net heerlik om kinders te kan dien saam met hulle ouers. Die gereedskap van Mind Moves raak deel van kliënte se lewensrugsakke sodat hulle kan regop bly, asook hulle unieke self beter verstaan en hanteer.

Om ‘n Mind Moves ontwikkelings en leer spesialis te kan wees, is vervullend, energie gewend en wonderlik.

Mind Moves het absoluut my lewe en my denkwyse vernuwe. Ek het nog altyd ‘n passie gehad vir kinders en nog altyd belang gestel om gedrag en leerhindernisse te verstaan. Dit is waarom ek onderwys as beroep gekies het, maar om ‘n Mind Moves Development & Learning Specialist te wees, het al my verwagtinge en my begrip hiervoor oortref!! Buiten dat ouers en kinders gehelp word op ‘n manier wat haalbaar is, selfs in ‘n besige leefstyl, groei ek in die proses. Elke kind en ouer voor my is soos ‘n uitdaging waar ek punte bymekaar kan probeer trek om beter te verstaan en dan ‘n doenbare plan van aksie voor te stel aan die ouers. Dit is so bevredigend!

Om ‘n Mind Moves Development & Learning Specialist te wees, is ‘n reuse voorreg. Die terugvoer wat mens van ouers en ander terapeute kry na ‘n sessie of na ‘n werkswinkel is dat Mind Moves moeilike konsepte en uitdagings in eenvoudige taal omskakel en ‘n verstaan bring wat weer ‘n positiewe invloed op die ouer kind verhouding het. Ek is al 17 jaar deel van die Mind Moves familie, en ek raak steeds meer en meer opgewonde oor dit.

What is rewarding is the fact that Mind Moves makes a difference because it starts the intervention at the foundation level of a child/ person’s challenge. Being able to explain to the parent the direction of development of the brain and why academics or behaviour is troublesome, is another reason why Mind Moves is so rewarding – parents can understand because it logical, it carries weight, and it gives them hope- realistic, logical, and sequential hope. That is what humans are on earth for- to make a difference. How valuable it is, to be able to give parents hope! For the first time ever I as an OT understood the foundation of a problem- that was mind blowing!

After a few days in training in 2010, Melodie gave us that information – after I/ my heart and soul had longed for it since university at the end 80’s!! The contact with the Mind Moves Institute and other Specialists are rewarding – being part of this pack of wolves is rewarding, because this is how we move stronger through vast spaces and high mountains in heavy weathers together.
